iPhone Almost Here

iphone.jpgThe iPhone hype is reaching a feverish pitch now that we’re counting the hours before the official release. Apple has posted the rateplans for the iPhone. The good news is that current AT&T customers can keep their existing plans and add the iPhone Data Plan (unlimited email and web and Visual Voicemail) for an additional $20/month. The rates seem reasonable, but I’m still having a hard time justifying the $500.00 pricetag for a phone. (I know, I know, it’s not just a phone.)

Who knows. Maybe I’ll get caught up in the frenzy and in a moment of weakness and delirium, I’ll slap down my credit card for some financial abuse.

And now for something completely different!

I am a bite leery about such terms as “Web 2.0″ and the “semantic web” and such, mostly because they are more-often-than-not ambiguous marketing terms. However, I am fond of the idea of web-based applications. It makes a lot of sense to me as long as security issues are considered.

Well these web apps are mostly just for fun, and security is probably not as important. Instead, Ze Frank is interested in how we play on the web. He’s a fun and entertaining guy who’s spoken at TED and has some very interesting ideas.

This little app (one among many at his site) is simple yet quite entertaining. If you’ve ever wanted to be good at drawing/illustrating, then you should check this out, regardless of any real skill you may possess. (Be sure to check out their impressive gallery from visitors of all ages.)

SEO and Analytics

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and data analytics seem to be the focus of monetized sites these days. Knowing who comes to your site, how long they stay, from whence they come, and how they navigate through your site is valuable information. There are many services/packages which can provide this type of information to a site owner. I’ve always been a bit perplexed by the difference in numbers I would receive from the different packages for the same site within the same timeframe.

This guy has done a nice comparison of some of the more popular web analytics packages, and provides some of his own data and analysis.

Well, yes, it’s beta software. But news of bugs and some vulnerabilities is making for some heated discussions at some of the popular forums like SlashDot. The news has apparently gained some traction in the business community, as APPL dropped by almost $4 a share in early trading today. Some of this may also be due to Job’s announcement that development for the iPhone will be limited.

It appears that Apple’s new OS (Leopard) will have some very nice new features added to the Finder. Check out the look and feel on this newly released video demo.
